Provenance
The upper rear frame features authentic period incised/stamped initials 'I R', representing the original owners mark. Constructed using traditional peg joinery throughout. A magnificent period piece of English country oak furniture history. A highly tactile, structural statement piece perfect for a hallway, library, or flanking a fireplace.
Presented in remarkably good, solid antique condition, retaining excellent structural integrity with heavy, stable joinery. The oak possesses an outstandingly warm, dark, historic waxed patina. Shows entirely honest, expected signs of its 350+ year history, including ancient surface checks, minor historic splits to the back panel, characterful indentation marks, and authentic wear to the tips of the armrests and feet. It has been lightly conserved, waxed, and is fully ready for another few centuries of use.
