Pair Of Vintage 1980s Alum Bay Ceramics Agate Ware Candlesticks, Isle Of Wight

£75.00

A beautifully matched pair of vintage studio pottery candlesticks, handmade by Alum Bay Ceramics on the Isle of Wight, England. Dating to the late 1980s (circa 1985–1991).

These pieces were created under the direction of potter Joseph Lester. Each candlestick showcases a striking marbled agate ware technique, created by throwing contrasting bands of natural earth toned, cream, and deep reddish-purple clays together on the potter's wheel. The unique organic swirls directly emulate the famous multi-coloured natural sand cliffs of Alum Bay.

Both candlesticks are fully authenticated, featuring the incised handwritten signature to the base: 'Our Isle / Alum Bay / I.O.W'. With their warm, tactile unglazed texture and earthy silhouette, this pair offers a perfect touch of mid-to-late century English studio pottery, fitting seamlessly into modern rustic, bohemian, or Wabi Sabi inspired interiors.

Base DIA7cm x H17cm

Presented in excellent vintage condition. Free from any chips, cracks, or restorations. The incised markings on the base remain crisp and entirely legible.
