A stunning yew and elm Windsor hoop back armchair (1823-1871). This is an original statement piece by Frederick Walker of Rockley Nottinghamshire who was the longest serving and last chair marker.

Chairmaking in the small hamlet of Rockley was highly regarded for its sophisticated, uniform craftsmanship. The regional style is famously documented by furniture historian Dr Bernard D. Cotton in his definitive reference book, The English Regional Chair.

Rockley Windsor chairs are highly collectible. He utilized exceptionally well-chosen timber and his chairs are easily identifiable by a precise, traditional three-ring arm turning and three-ring leg turnings terminating in distinctive tulip feet. True to the Rockley custom, Walker regularly impressed his ownership mark into his work, as found with this authentic piece that is stamped with "F.WALKER.ROCKLEY" directly into the edge of the wooden seat.
